Texting and driving do not mix. Even a one second glance to read a message can mean disaster. Fortunately, there are ways to decrease the temptation to check your phone while driving:
– Turn off your phone. It’s the easiest way to know you won’t be distracted by an incoming text or call while driving.
– Download an app. There are a number of apps (like Drive Safe Mode and Live2Txt) available that will auto respond to texts to let others know you are driving. Some smart phones have this feature already installed in the phone.
– Pull over and call the person back. If you need to respond to a message before arriving at your destination, talk with them on the phone via Bluetooth or headset.
– Adults can struggle with texting while driving too! Parents, be a role model on what is acceptable while driving. Put away the phone and minimize distractions. Your children will notice!
