A Blog and a Book Concerning Modesty
Closed Published by Theresa June 12th, 2008 in Abstinence, Book Reviews, The Culture, Teenage and Child SexualityI just finished reading Wendy Shalit’s “Girls Gone Mild” and while it took me almost a month and a half, only getting to read a chapter every couple of days, the impact of this book was in no way lessened. This book made me think. In fact, a chapter at a time was really all that I […]
Many of the most recent news headlines have been rife with reports of sex and scandal. Not that this should really shock anyone, as it is obvious that there is nothing the media will fixate its attention on longer or harder than the tawdry; however, despite how often the weekly wires are inundated with talk of […]
Hollywood Doc NOT an Expert on Abstinence
1 Comment Published by KobyL March 28th, 2008 in "Comprehensive" Sex Ed, The CultureIf anyone saw the Early Show this morning, you saw Kate Walsh, who played a doctor on Grey’s Anatomy, talking about how abstinence education has failed our kids. Since when did an actress who plays a doctor on TV become any sort of expert on health issues? Did anyone else notice that no one from […]
Kindergardners In Trouble for Hugging
0 Comments Published by KobyL November 28th, 2007 in The CultureThis article is crazy! Young school age children are being punished for sexual harassment. Kindergartners and first graders are being suspended for sexual misconduct based on behavior like hugging, poking, and pinching classmates or school staff. Many people are shocked that states are collecting data about sexual harassment among children so young.

Today I was talking to a friend who is pregnant by her boyfriend. They have since broken up and he is apparently running around with all sorts of women. So here she is, planning to have a baby by herself, wondering why she gave in to the pressure to have sex.
It makes me appreciate that […]
Casual Sex
0 Comments Published by contactus November 21st, 2007 in Abstinence, STDs, Media Bits, The Culture, Teenage and Child SexualityOnce upon a time men and women dated as a prelude to marriage which was a prelude to sex. Today, teens are “hooking-up.” As one teen explains, “First you give a guy oral sex and then you decide if you like him.” What a tragedy for our society. There are more than two-dozen sexually transmitted […]

The article, “Broken homes raise abuse risk: Scholars: Traditional families best,” states that each year the alleged perpetrator of children dying has been the boyfriend of the child’s mother, not the biological […]

0 Comments Published by Jenny August 29th, 2007 in STDs, The Culture, Teenage and Child SexualityIn 1999 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) fast tracked a new drug on its way to the market. Produced by pharmaceutical company Merck & Co., it was a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug popularly known as Vioxx. Within five years, the drug was withdrawn from the market. Vioxx’s short life was due to several unfortunate […]
Child Molestation: It’s Hilarious!
0 Comments Published by Hilary July 27th, 2007 in Adventures in Missing the Point, The Culture, Teenage and Child SexualityThe Catholic League serves a purpose, but sometimes it doesn’t quite get it. In a July 24 news release the organization describes what it calls Jay Leno’s “obsession.” Apparently the Tonight Show host has ridiculed Catholic priests six times in the past five weeks. The jokes, as reported by the Catholic League, were:

0 Comments Published by Hilary July 17th, 2007 in The Culture, Doings ElsewhereThis is a few days old, but I’m way behind on my reading. From the Dawn Patrol:
A friend notes the following in a recent Philadelphia Inquirer article where a reporter quizzed men about their opinions on women’s fashions:
Anything too tight (cut down on the cleavage, girls) and lots of makeup made the list, too. But […]
