California University Reaffirms Truth

Azusa Pacific University in California recently demonstrated the kind of unwavering leadership needed at Christian institutions by proving it is never too late to reaffirm truth as it relates to sex, marriage and gender.

Religious institutions of higher learning are consistently faced with pressure to compromise beliefs pertaining to issues of sexual morality.

After considering a change to a long standing policy in APU's student handbook, the institutions Board of Trustees issued a statement reaffirming "biblical orthodoxy," in which they clarified that APU's convictions "aren't subject to outside pressure of legal, political, or social varieties."

"God's perfect will and design for humankind," the board went on, "is the biblical understanding of the marriage covenant as between one man and one woman. Outside of marriage, He calls His people to abstinence." Importantly, they reaffirmed the school's commitment to walking with students through such challenging questions, and valuing them as individuals.

The Abstinence Clearinghouse commends Azusa Pacific's Board in reaffirming truth and taking steps to restore a biblical understanding of human sexuality. The conviction and clarity shown by the board of trustees will act as a major qualification for leaders of religious institutions in the years to come.
