The Journal of Law and Social Deviance (LSD), a peer-reviewed journal affiliated with Florida International University, recently published an article, The 'Cosmo Girl' Invades Middle Schools: Grooming Girls for Disease and Depression. Author and researcher Dr. Judith Reisman describes how Cosmopolitan, supposedly aimed at adult women, uses teen television stars and teen influencers on its covers to lure young women ages 10 to 17 to purchase the magazine. For example, some of the magazine covers feature well-known Disney film and television stars juxtaposed with sexually explicit titles.
Over the course of the last decade, Cosmopolitan Magazine has outdone itself in glamorizing sexual promiscuity. Current published pieces being marketed towards teens include: The 12 Best Porn Movies Money Can Buy, 10 Must-Read Tips for First Time Sex and Anal Foreplay Tips for Beginners.
Dr. Reisman's article, published in LSD, describes how children and adolescents who are exposed to media with sexual content engage in sexual activity at younger ages and with greater number of partners. All material that encourages multiple sexual partners threatens the physical health of adolescents and of young women in particular.
