Ed Sheeran's New Single: Love or Lust?

Ed Sheeran's new single Shape of You debuted at the top of the charts this week. Sheeran's success is set to continue as it looks like the singer-songwriter could hold the top two spots on the Official Singles Chart this Friday for a third consecutive week.

In his recent single Castle on a Hill, Sheeran sings "The club isn't the best place to find a lover, so the bar is where I go", and continues "Girl, you know I want your love."Are these lyrics talking about love or lust? Love is patient, love is kind, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not self-seeking, it takes no pleasure wrong-doing. Lust is the opposite of love. Addressing the false claims of love made by the world is important. Just because the word "love" is used in a lyric, that does not mean true love is being demonstrated. How often it is that we mindlessly listen to music unaware of the message within the lyrics. Challenge yourself to be more aware of the music you listen to each day and do not hesitate to call out the lies our culture promotes through music.
