Striving to Be a Good Dad

Focus on the Family President and author Jim Daly overcame the challenges of his upbringing to become a good father to his two sons despite the reality that he grew up with an absent father. According to Daly, more than 40 percent of America's children are being raised in a fatherless home. In his broadcast, Striving to Be a Good Dad, Daly reports that children growing up in a fatherless home account for the following:
  • 63 percent of youth who commit suicide come from a fatherless home
  • 71 percent of pregnant teens lack a father figure
  • 71 percent of high school dropouts come from a fatherless home
  • 85 percent of youth in prison lack a father figure
  • 90 percent of homeless and runaway children lived without a father
