Teens are now faced with a new way for them to be told exactly how they don't measure up. A new app called Spontana allows users upload selfies so other users can rate the person's attractiveness on a scale of 1 to 100. The app is described as a mismatch of Instagram and Tinder. Should you find someone who rates you as highly as you rate them, the app will automatically put you in contact with one another.
One user wrote in a recent app review, "It's a shallow, hideous expression of how debased we've become, although it's not as if we haven't been doing this since the beginning of time."
It is important to inform your teens that retouched images found on social media are not a fair way to measure their self-worth. Due to the high volume of time teens spend on social media, the reality that all social media platforms center around putting one's best foot forward needs to be reinforced on a regular basis.
