Women and Masturbation

"Lust is not a guy problem-it's a human problem," wrote Kristen Clark in a Covenant Eyes article. "If you're a woman who has struggled with any sort of lustful sin habit, including masturbation, you're not alone. Millions of women (single and married) are facing similar temptations every day."

Last week Covenant Eyes released part two of series entitled, Women and Masturbation: Talking About It Openly. Clark claims that understanding the damaging effects of lust and masturbation is only the first half of the equation. The second half is actually doing something about it.

Here are two of Clark's six strategies for women wishing to defeat sexual sin in their lives:

  • Choose to fight the battle.
According to Clark, people often struggle daily with wrong because they do not choose to aggressively battle against it. A person may claim, "I hate this, I want to defeat this!" but then do very little to actually defeat the habit they are struggling with.
  • Find an accountability partner.
Masturbation is stereo-typically known as a "guy problem." This stereotype can cause women to feel as though no one else shares their struggle. Freedom is found in accountability and sharing a burden with someone of like-minded values. As hard as it may be, humble yourself and ask a godly woman to hold you accountable in this area. Ask her to follow up with you on a regular basis to ask how you're doing.
