Are You Aware of These Apps?

It is nearly impossible to keep up with every new, trending app that is marketed to young adults. Talking to your children about the potential risk-features associated with new apps is essential to maintaining safety online. Risk features may include: interaction with strangers, anonymity and apps that warrant privacy concerns.

Common Sense Media recently released an article outlining ten apps that parents should be aware of in 2019. Apps mentioned include Lipsi, an anonymous "feedback" app that allows users tell others what they think of them without revealing their own identities and HOLLA, an app that allows users to video chat with strangers.

Be aware that developers releasing free apps often make money through advertising, in-app purchases and selling user data. Know what is on your child's device and engage in regular conversations about the apps and accounts they use to help you and your child determine if the apps should continue to be used.
