In the wake of the Dobbs ruling that struck down Roe v. Wade after 49 years, many pro-abortion activists are making their voices heard using a surprising route—a sex strike. The day after the ruling came down, Abstinence Clearinghouse was surprised to see the word "abstinence" trending on Twitter as women pledged to abstain from sex to advocate for abortion rights. As of today, "#sexstrike" has over 3.6 million views on TikTok and thousands of videos shared.
One Twitter user encouraged women to pursue abstinence saying, “Women of America: Take the pledge. Because SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, we cannot take the risk of an unintended pregnancy." Those who have celebrated the sexual "liberation" of hook-up culture yielding sex on-demand without consequences must now acknowledge that their actions do have consequences. The best way to protect yourself from the consequences of sexual activity is to abstain. No type of contraceptive offers 100% protection against STDs or unintended pregnancy.
At Abstinence Clearinghouse, we believe that by choosing abstinence until marriage, people are giving themselves the best chance at a happy and healthy future. Further, promoting abstinence until marriage is the best solution for reducing abortion demand.
