The Reality of Raising Young Adults

"When our kids are small, we can talk until we are blue in the face about the struggles that come in the early years," Katie Bingham-Smith wrote in a recent blog post. She reflects, "As my kids have gotten older and more self-sufficient, I've realized something I didn't think about when they were small: I still need help."

Katie encourages parents to continually consult the "village" of people that you sought in your child's early years because it takes just that, a village, to raise a child. The reality is that it is difficult to raise a teenager. According to Katie, parents of young adults "need just as much help and understanding as new mothers." Rather than reflecting on what is not working in your family and becoming discouraged, reflect on what has been working and what's bringing your family together.
